Australia is an independent democracy with a population of over 20 million and is spread over the following 8 States:Queensland, New South Wales, Australia Capital Territory,Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Western Australia & Northern Territory.

Australia is the 6th largest nation after Russia, Canada, China, the United States of America and Brazil, although it has a much smaller population.

Australia has one of the best economies of the world in recent years, with a high growth rate and low inflation, both helping to keep interest rates low.

Australia's cultural society includes people from many countries around the world. Immigration is important to Australian society. Since 1945, over 6 million people from nearly 200 countries have settled in Australia and migrants have made a huge contribution in forming the 'modern' Australia. Currency information: 
Australian currency ($A) is decimal with the dollar as the basic unit (100 cents equals one dollar). Notes come in $100, $50, $20, $10, and $5 denominations.

Coins come in $2, $1, 50c, 20c, 10c and 5c denominations.
Credit cards:
The most commonly accepted credit cards are American Express, Bankcard, Diners Club, MasterCard, Visa and JCB.
Banks and other locations have ATM - Machines. Credit cards may need to be enabled for international access by your credit card provider.

Currency exchange:
Exchange facilities are available at international airports. Changing your oreign currency or traveller’s cheques can also be undertaken at banks.
