On January 21, 2002, euro notes and coins became available. The new currency is called the euro and each euro will be made up of 100 cents. 5, 10, 20 50, 100, 200 and 500 notes are available, as in 1 and 2 euro coins, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents coins. By July 2002, only euros will be in circulation and they will be the official currency.

Weather

Weather:
The Canary Islands are approx 300kms from the Western Sahara desert, making the climate a lot warmer in than in Britain. Average daytime temp is 22C for most of the year. All the islands can get quite windy.

Lanzarote enjoys a very mild climate year-round, which makes it a wonderful holiday destination for both summer and winter visitors.
Lanzarote is one of the driest of the Canary Islands but has almost perfect conditions for all seasons.. The hottest days in summer are usually when a hot dry wind is blown in from the Sahara Desert and sometimes causes mini-sandstorms to spread over some or all of the islands. Little rainfall is expected other than isolated showers, and this occurs mainly during winter.
Forecasts from http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/SPXX0012_f.html will help new visitors to check conditions before they arrive.
