Discover beautiful Switzerland now, it’s full of charming people, pretty towns and interesting cities just waiting to be explored.
Boasting many of Europe’s highest mountains, Switzerland also offers delightful and bustling cities, glorious snow-covered peaks and wonderful mountain scenery around almost every corner.
Switzerland is ideal for a short break but once you arrive at your holiday destination, you may decide to stay longer in order to experience all the charms of such an enchanting country.
Travelling independently is a great way to holiday in Switzerland. You can choose whether to stay in a city hotel, a ski apartment or a traditional chalet in a high-mountain village, but whatever self-catering accommodation or holiday rentals you select, you’ll be sure to find impeccable standards, great service and enjoy some of the finest Swiss hospitality available.
Awake on a summer’s morning to the sound of distant cowbells and view the glorious alpine scenery through your window – you will be amazed. Grab your back pack, jump into your hiking boots and set off for a leisurely walk along endless trails while you absorb spectacular landscapes, flower-filled meadows and forest-clad hillsides. The pure, fresh mountain air will hang in your breath and be remembered forever.
Switzerland has some amazing towns and cities just waiting to be explored either on foot, by rail or traditional lake steamers that paddle their way across the water to pretty hamlets and larger villages.
If you want to spend some quality time around the shops, then head for Zurich where the train arrives at the start of your shopping trip. Zurich is packed with stylish hotels, modern cultural sights, numerous fashion stores, classy jewellers and lines of pavement cafes and restaurants where you relax in the sun during a break.
Lucerne is a must to visit, and from wherever you are staying it may be possible to go by train, up and over the mountains, through forests and stunning alpine scenery – it could be an unforgettable journey you will want to repeat. The centre of Lucerne is so pretty and faces out across Lake Lucerne, so easy to start with a boat trip to get your bearings and which takes in a variety of shoreline stops around the lake for local folk, hotel guests and holidaymakers alike.
For the serious shopper Lucerne has it all. A wonderful café-culture, quaint narrow side-streets, bargain shops, designer stores and expensive watchmakers, all set close to the lakeside ferry boats and lake steamers who are busy back and forth with their passengers. A fantastic and beautiful wooden bridge crosses the estuary in the centre of town, attracting you to cross from the station to the shops and get you in the mood for your day.
Always popular with holidaymakers is tranquil Interlaken, the gateway to the mighty Jungfrau mountain range. With a choice of train rides to the high mountain villages of Wengen and Grindelwald via Lauterbrunnen, or a gondola ride from pretty Murren to visit the famous Schiltorn, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views and incredible sights above the gorgeous waters of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, lying either side of popular Interlaken town.
There is so much more to see on a holiday in Switzerland, but all of it will be waiting when you plan your next visit to this beautiful country.
