Description of Holiday Villa

Perched on a hilltop in the foothills of the French Alps is the striking yet somber Château de Méouilles overlooking the long and lovely turquoise Lac de Castillon. Built by the Knights Templar in the twelfth century to protect the surrounding lands against marauding Saracens and occupied by a well-established Provençal family, the d'Ailhaud's, from the fourteenth century, the château still stands guard over the rolling green landscape below.
Today, the château sparkles in the brilliant Provençal sunlight under a crisp, blue sky, and at 900 meters altitude, it enjoys a cool and comfortable climate making it the ideal vacation spot at any time of the year. The area is known as 'the Secret Alps of Provence', rich with nature's beauty and not far from France's Grand Canyon, the Gorges du Verdon.
The château sits on 11 acres of land which it shares with a superb Romanesque chapel and nearby statues of Saints Peter and Paul. The château itself is divided into three apartments, each with a fully-equipped and spacious kitchen. Apartment Saint Paul has one bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a salon and is suitable for four people. Apartment Saint Pierre has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a salon and kitchen and accommodates six people. Finally Apartment Saint Jean has two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, salon, TV room and billiards room and will comfortably house eight people. For those who would like to rent the entire château, they will enjoy a total of five bedrooms, six bathrooms, three kitchens, three salons, the TV room, and billiard room housing a maximum of 18 people in three separate apartments. This is an ideal arrangement for groups of friends or a large family. The château is situated just 2km from the village of Saint André that is renowned for International paragliding competitions. The village hosts many small restaurants and coffee shops, and is thriving with activity: Provence markets and Local Arts and Crafts abound. The area is one huge playground, with all sorts of adrenalin sports available: canoe-kayak, white water rafting, the Verdon Gorges, hiking trails and lots of fishing in the stream that feed the vast lake of Castillon. Within 20km are the towns of Castellane, Entrevaux and Colmar-les-Alpes, all three fortified by King Louis XIV. During summer, the younger ones will be able to enjoy medieval fairs, pony rides and pedal boats on the Lake. During winter, just 30km from the castle, are the Riviera ski resorts of the Val d'Allos
