Description of Holiday Cottage

Moulin de Pierretoune is a beautiful Basque watermill built in 1550 situated in the heart of the Basque countryside, yet only 30 minutes from the centre of Biarritz and just 10 minutes from the A64 motorway. The mill has been recently renovated and has 3 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom, all overlooking the river which flows beneath the terrace. There is also a bathroom and WC on the 1st floor of the mill. On the ground floor, there is a large living/dining room with large fireplace, well equipped newly-fitted kitchen and laundry/shower room with 2nd WC.
The mill is surrounded by 5 acres of riverside gardens - there is a large terrace with garden furniture and an island garden, as well as a long garden running along the riverside. The surrounding fields have horses, llamas(!), donkeys and cows.
The town of Biarritz, world famous for its surfing beaches, is only 30 minutes away. Pau is 45 minutes away. The Basque towns of Bayonne, St. Jean de Luz and St. Jean Pied de Port are also close by. The Spanish border is just 30 minutes away and towns such as San Sebastian and Bilbao can be visited for day trips. The Basque region is also famous for its excellent cuisine and as well as surfing, there are numerous activities available in the area including golf, hiking, canoeing, skiing, cycling, horseriding, etc.

Beaches / Coast

The closest beach is Anglet just 25 km away. The Basque coast is famous for its long sandy beaches and excellent surf conditions. In Biarritz, there is a large choice of beaches. Cote des Basques is excellent for surfing, the Grande Plage directly in front of the casino is excellent for both surfing and swimming and the smaller protected Plage du Vieux Port is perfect for swimming.

The watermill is located just outside the village of La Bastide Clairence, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France, in the heart of the Basque country in South West France, near the Spanish border. The mill is just 30 minutes from Biarritz and Bayonne and 45 minutes from Pau. The mill is situated on the river Arberoue in wonderfully peaceful countryside. The mill overlooks the river and surrounding fields containing horses, sheep, cows and even lamas! The village is just 10 minutes from the A64 motorway.
