Walking is just a question of going down the lane and starting your exploration of this delightful countryside, no specialist training required and no cost involved. Canoeing can be arranged at a small town some 20 minutes car drive away, It is available during July and August and some tuition is on offer but would need to be investigated further (this can be done on your behalf). Tennis and swimming are catered for in the town about 15 minutes drive distant and there are bike hire facilities in the area. All costs are modest.
If you prefer to stick closer to home there is an unheated plunge pool in the garden (usually warm enough in July/August and early September) or if you don't mind a short drive there is a delightful park area nearby with waterfowl, lovely walks and plenty of space for children to run and play and a restaurant for that essential afternoon aperitif in the sunshine.
For history buffs and those anxious to capture some memories on camera there are picturesque villages with their ancient churches and narrow winding streetsand there is a glorious chateau at Le Rochefoucauld. If you are prepared to drive for about an hour you can experience some French naval history at Rochefort where you can view the enormously long "ropery" and see the reconstruction of the vessel Hermonie which took Lafayette to the United States where he subsequently held a position of authority under President George Washington.
There are chateaux to view and and loads of other places of interest to capture the imagination.

For adults and older children there is the amazing Futuroscope experience at nearby Poitiers. It is easy to spend a whole day absorbed in this moving image theme park with its 3D cinemas and rides which simulate actual sensations with moving seats and realistic sound effects.

A not to be missed visit is one to the Monkey Valley (just 30 minutes away) where you can get up close and personal with smaller primates and watch them being fed. The larger monkeys are kept safely at a distance. Younger children seem to love this place as it does give the opportunity to see wildlife roaming free. There is also a small domestic petting zoo and a great adventure playground.

All bed linens and tea towels are provided. Visitors are requested to bring their own towels. Linen is changed weekly and the property is cleaned on changeover days or weekly if a longer stay is booked. (additional cleaning will be undertaken if requested).

A French "Escape to the Country"...our little hamlet of Chez Clion in the Poitou-Charente region is within easy reach of La Rochelle & Poitiers. The property is set in quiet rolling countryside with little or no passing traffic.There are a number of nearby towns offering all the usual amenities and facilities that you would expect. The nearest supermarket is less than 10 minutes away and the boulangerie is just 5 minutes so you can have and enjoy fresh bread daily for breakfast.

Local Airport: Poitiers - just 45 minutes away and with car hire facilities on hand. You can also fly into this region via Tours, Limoges and La Rochelle all of which are servied by budget airlines.
Local Ferry Port: Caen/St Malo/Calais - depending on your departure point. Calais is a steady 7 hour drive. Nearest Railway Station: Ruffec, en route from Paris and just 15 minutes away.
Nearest Motorway/Freeway Junction: A10 to Sauze Vaussais

The historic port of La Rochelle is only 90 minutes away. With is cobbled streets in the old town and hundreds of fascinating shops and dozens of delightful restaurants it is easy to while away the hours. There is a lovely park with a small zoo, a sandy beach area, marina and acquarium to keep the whole family amused. For a quieter day at the beach there is the Ile de Re or the superb sandy beaches of Isle d'Oleron.
