Our self catering accommodation is in a recently renovated barn superbly situated in the heart of the Chartreuse Regional Nature Park at 1000 metres altitude. We are part of a small collection of barns and houses comprising Les Claret, one of 52 traditional Alpine farming hamlets named after the families who farmed the Entremont valleys. The Chartreuse Regional Nature Park is one of the best areas for summer hill walking in France and is an excellent and undiscovered venue for winter skiing, snow-show tours and winter sports - in short, all sorts of outdoor activities, all year round. Little known to English tourists, La Chartreuse offers the authentic alpine experience. We are situated just a short distance from the spectacular Cirque de St. Même with it’s 300 metre high cliffs and tumbling waterfalls. St. Pierre d'Entremont, the local town, is 5 kms distance and has a wide range of shops including an organic butchers, a superb cheese shop, a well-stocked mini supermarket, two cash machines, a post office and petrol station. Other sites of interest include the original Monastery of the Cartusian Order from which the Park takes its name and the Church at St. Hugue decorated by the artist Acabas. The historic cities of Grenoble, Chambery and Annecy are also close by. The local 'Route de Savoie Faire' takes in the Savoie vineyards, a strong tradition of local cuisine and visits to the workshops of local craftsmen and artists. Classified 3 star by the préfecture, the accommodation has three bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and can accommodate up to 12 people if required. Accommodation is flexible as two of the bedrooms feature mezzanine floors and one is also equipped with a small couchette under the eaves. There is a large well equipped kitchen & dining's area with many original features and seating for up to 12 people. There is also a comfortable and cosy living room with a wood-burning stove, TV, free WiFi network and DVD collection. This room also has a double bed settee for use if required. Double doors lead to a sunny first floor terrace for dining outside and sun-bathing. Outside the property, there is a garden of some 500 sq. mts. and private parking. The accommodation is ideal for families (with or without children) or groups of friends. Since we are very much off the beaten track, there is very little danger from passing traffic. Children and dogs (which we welcome) are therefore free to roam, play and meet our excellent neighbours! The area is a paradise for walkers since several excellent trails depart directly from the accommodation. We are happy to provide trail guides, expert local knowledge of flora, fauna and traditions As an Englishman living in France, I've very much fallen in love with this little known and scenically stunning region of France. Having married a local girl, I started visiting the Chartreuse frequently in the 90's. By 2000, we'd found a suitable old barn to convert into a rural gite... a long held ambition. By the end of 2003, we'd completed the conversion and we're keen to launch the gite as a very special holiday destination. Our accommodation now boasts a very international clientele. Many of our guests have now become firm friends and return each year to sample further delights of the region. The accommodation is available for let as self-catering accommodation for weekly lets and is also available during weekends out of season. We also offer self-guided walking tours on a full-board basis out of high season. [Hide Description]
