Description of Holiday Villa

La Dioma is a beautiful three storey Tuscan farmhouse, dating back over 200 years, which has been recently fully renovated retaining all the original features of chestnut beamed and cotta ceilings, stone walls and original fire place. These are combined with every modern comfort including fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, Sky Tv, sound system, central heating and woodburner in the lounge. The villa is situated in a sunny location with a superb outlook to the Lima valley and the nearby pretty town of Bagni di Lucca. There are uninterrupted all-around views of forested mountains scattered with medieval villages which are truly breathtaking. The house comprises five good-sized double bedrooms with four ensuite bathrooms, one family bathroom and groundfloor wc. The master bedroom with its high ceiling and grand picture window is stunning. There is also a ground floor study with a sofa-bed which can be turned into another double bedroom. There is a large comfortable lounge with leather sofas and woodburner and patio doors leading on to the large terrace which surrounds the house. The spacious kitchen/dining room includes a farmhouse table seating 10-12 people. There is another large stone table and chairs on the patio for al-fresco eating, shaded by a large umbrella. The beautiful private swimming pool is located on a promontory of land adjacent to the house and is surrounded by a large sunbathing patio for soaking up the amazing panoramic views. The property's land comprises terraced olive groves in front of the house and 34 acres of meadows and woodland surrounding the house. La Dioma is located on the outskirts of a little medieval village approximately four kilometres from the pretty market town and spa resort of Bagni di Lucca, which is situated on the banks of the beautiful Lima river. There are a dozen family-run restaurants and pizzerias, twice weekly market, a few bars, tennis courts, a public pool and thermal spa resort.

Skiing Facilities

The principal Tuscan ski resort of Abetone is about 40 minutes drive from La Dioma and in recent years has enjoyed excellent skiing conditions and renovated lifts etc. Best months for skiing are from January to March. La Dioma has full central heating and a woodburner and open fire in the kitchen, making it warm and cosy in the winter months.

Location of Holiday Villa

The property is located four kilometres above the pretty spa town of Bagni di Lucca, approximately a half an hour's dirve from the walled medieval city of Lucca. The property is located on the outskirts of a small village and has outstanding views of Bagni di Lucca in the valley below and the surrounding forested mountains scattered with medieval villages. Bagni di Lucca is situated on the banks of beautiful Lima river, about 40 minute drive from ski/mountain resort of Abetone. It is also situated on the edge of the Garfagnana area of Tuscany, which is an area of outsanding natural beauty with mountain ranges, rivers, canyons, waterfalls, caves, hiking trails, national parks, stunning mountain passes. The area is siuated near to the Mediterranean coast with chic seaside resorts such as Viareggio and Forte di Marmi. The beautiful Tuscan cities of Florence, Pisa and Siena are a day trip away as is the famous Chianti area. The Cinque Terre coastal area is also worth a day trip.

Directions to Holiday Villa

The nearest airport is Pisa which is approximately one hour's drive from Bagni di Lucca. A hire car can be pre-booked from the airport. Take the motorway which skirts around Pisa to Lucca. Drive around Lucca's walls and take the road north to Abetone. Follow the river Serchio until it forks, taking the Lima river fork towards Bagni di Lucca. Pass the beautiful ancient stone bridge with unusual humps known as the Devils Bridge. Drive through the town of Bagni di Lucca to Bagni Villa part of the town, follow the tree-lined square taking the road to Montefegatesi. The village of Guzzano is the first village off this road. The house is located at the end of the village.
