Taormina is a small historical town located on a plateau on top of a hill in the Eastern Coast of the amazing Mediterranean island of Sicily. It is situated in a strategic point, as it is possible either to do one-day excursions to the Volcano Etna and to the nearby villages like Castelmola and Savoca, or to reach the wonderful beaches of Isola Bella, Mazzarò, Letojanni, and Sant’Alessio. In Taormina it is possible to enjoy history, culture, relax, nightlife, and the typical Italian lifestyle. The Ancient Greek Theater is one of the most famous monuments in Taormina, from which it is possible to enjoy the breathtaking view of the Volcano laying on the Mediterranean sea. The historical center of Taormina is especially beautiful; it dates back to the Renaissance, and in its main street, Corso Umberto, there are many fashion and souvenir shops, cafes, and cake shops, while in the surrounding alleys one can get lost finding glimpses of unexpected beauty. |
| How to get there |
To reach Taormina from the airport of Palermo, Trapani, or Catania you will first need to get to the highway A18 Catania - Messina, direction MESSINA. Notice that in Italy the highway's signals are GREEN. After Catania's paytoll station you will continue in the highway for 45 km, more or less. After three tunnels you will find the exit for Taormina. After Taormina's paytoll station follow the direction to Taormina CENTRO. You have to climb the mountain and you will get to a large car parking called "LUMBI", where there is also a roundabaout. After the roundabaout go into the tunnel and at the end of the tunnel you have to pass a traffic light and go on climbing. You will pass another car parking called "PORTA CATANIA", pass it and go ahead, straight into the village. When you enter into the center of Taormina you will find yourself in a small square with a bar called "LURALEO" on your left, the POSTAL OFFICE on your right, and PORTA CATANIA (an old arch) in front of you. |
