Canico de Baixo Holiday Rentals Guide
The holiday resort of Canico de Baixo in Madeira is situated in an ideal location on the Madeira South Coast. It is very easy to reach the capital Funchal when you wish to visit, as a local bus service is provided, but Canico is not quite as busy. Getting from Funchal Airport to Canico de Baixo is very quick, its also close to the capital Funchal, and has good access to the rest of the island.
Canico de Baixo is normally a very quiet resort, with just a few hotels and a small number of bars and restaurants. There’s rocky beach to stroll along, but there is a good and safe swimming area at the end of the promenade, which is very popular with the locals at weekends.
The beach at Garajau is very close and is popular with scuba divers because there are lots of colourful fish to admire. It’s usually possible to book a ‘dolphin spotting’ tour from one of the hotels in Canico or from the Marina in Funchal. The trips are well worth the cost, especially if you see an Atlantic Spotted Dolphin which are so beautiful.
Madeira is truly amazing with so many things to do and places to see. It’s a good idea to explore the Rabacal Levadas on the East side of the island which are really great, although levada walking is not for the faint hearted. Alternatively you can take a sightseeing trip to the Desertas instead, or take a scenic drive to admire the magnificent ocean views, Madeira's soaring high mountains, and the proliferation of beautiful flowers and fresh, clean, unpolluted air.
If holidaymakers expect a quiet and peaceful holiday in Canico de Baixo, then that is exactly what they will enjoy.
